Wiper motor/switch

Post by brn2rde »

When we put my daughters car back together, the wiper motor worked. It has not been driven or used since as it is still in progress, but now I cannot get the wiper motor to work at all. I would like to beleive it is a connection issue, but have had no luck tracking that down.(all new wiring harness so that part is good) Anyone with knowledge want to chime in? I'd like to send a hot right to the motor for testing but am unsure which pin to connect to. I have not yet removed the switch for testing but will do so when all the easy stuff is exhausted.

Thanks!

Just a suggestion: please list the car year/model/I.D. in your signature so that folks can help you easier.

As Nissanman said, what year? Have you gone to the tech wiki and checked out/printed out your wiring diagram there? It will tell you which wire. The standard procedure for elec. trouble shooting is to verify power to a component before condemning it. So use the diagram to determine which wire in the plug is the + to the wiper motor, then use your test light to check for power there.

Power goes directly to the motor in all cars from 66-70. It then goes back and forth from the switch for low, high and park.

Thanks Curtis. Useful info. I looked at the schematics but did not sus that out. I assume then the swith simply loops the ground? So it is most likely a bad ground either in the switch or? Gotta think about how to test that....

Both the motor and switch need to be grounded. The switch is grounded through the harness and the motor is too. So to test you must have the harness hooked up to the frame or hook a ground to the ground wire in the dash harness.
