I would like to remove the PCV elbow from my R16 valve cover to make polishing much easier. I have a few questions:
Do I need to remove the riveted-on baffle that's under it in order to get the elbow off / on?
Does anyone know what the hard substance that "glues" the elbow to the cover is?
Has anyone removed & replaced this elbow with good results, and if so, will you share any secrets to success?
I'm especially interested in removing the elbow without breaking anything, what to use to re-glue it in place, and how to re-rivet the baffle back on, if necessary.
Thanks!

Not sure what that stuff is exactly, but it is very tough and resilient. Suggest you leave the elbow and baffle in place and just polish around it. Little to be gained by removal.

It threads in from the top as I recall, so no need to remove anything from below

I just removed one. The adhesive appears to be something like epoxy. I warmed up the part a bit with a propane torch, 200-300 degrees F, and then turned it with a large wrench. Screwed right out. Put a little epoxy on the threads when I put it back together.

Thanks, Keith. I figured somebody must have done this successfully. I'll try heating it up and pulling it out.
