It's a real PITA to fill. I did this a couple weeks ago and regretted not getting a pump specifically made for this. I ended up getting several bottles of gear oil, attaching a tube and squeezing with all my might and refilling to get the case filled up.

Hindsight.... Get a pump of some sort.

WHAT!!!!! I feel like I've been duped. That's a great idea.

Oh well, shoulda coulda woulda. Next time. Makes replacing the back up light switch much less daunting with that vital piece of info. Boy do I feel like an amateur now.

+1 on that method. Fill from underneath is a PITA. Stretch trash bags on driver side floor, open up boot and remove, then thread the tuber from above and pump while sitting there is much easier. Making a mess is a given on this one.

For my 4 speed I filled mine before installation and then took a medicine bottle, I think it was an Excedrin bottle that was the right diameter and inserted it in place of the drive line. It didn't get banged up and didn't leak.

Harbor Freight has a cheap pump that works well for gear oil.

In an example of the Dave Brisco mantra, “Take my advice, I am not using it.”,
Yesterday I drained and refilled the trans from underneath, but reduced the PITA factor by raising her about 12” off the ground on all four corners.
Why?
After / during the last backroads drive, I had a couple of quizzical clutch events, which turned out just to be long term neglect of fluid leading to softer and softer pedal, until finally some in-operability when warm.
But when I backed her into the garage, gear oil leaked out (thought it was oil at first, had dread of rear main seal, but no)

Refilled, and will be taking a batch and the pump (now that will be a foul smelling trunk) along on next drive... fingers crossed.

I filled mine from under the hood. I used four foot piece of 1/2 inch vinyl tubing fed down from above and pushed into the hole from below. It went in slowly while I did something else. I had a pan under to catch the overflow which was just a few drops.
