R16 3 main questions....

Post by dynaguy »

I have 2 r16's. Both are 3 main bearings. One has an iron head, the other aluminum head. What is interchangeable between these?

Heads?
Rockers?
Cam?
Crank?

TIA,

Pat

Pretty much everything except for the thermostat housing and related components.

The aluminum head is on an earlier #'d engine. The iron is on the matching # engine, but is in sad shape. Not sure I can save it. When did the change from aluminum to iron happen? TIA Pat

67. There are 3 versions of the AL head from 67-70 if memory serves. Some parts are interchangeable, some are not.

There was recent discussion about SAE vs metric timing gears, just in case someone has been into it and replaced gears.
