Exterior Door Handle Disassembly

Post by Winnfield »

I'm attempting to replace the weatherstripping on the exterior door handle - I've relieved the springs and it seems as if the hinge pins can be removed to separate the two parts enabling the new weatherstripping to attached without cutting the rubber. What's the magic trick to disassemble the handle?

I think you're gonna need to grind the rivets and re-rivet them.

I would razor blade slice the weatherstripping, then glue with super glue instead of messing with the integrity if the handle. There are o-ring making kits that use this process to make custom o-rings. Make sure you wipe any oil off the surface of the razor blade prior to making the cut. FWIW Pat
