Here we have the infamous gauge voltage regulator. Look closely and you can see why proper grounding is important. In the last picture you can kind of see the contact points. I put a dab of solder on the ground clip.

It would fun to hook it up and take a video of it working.

The easiest way I found to quickly check my gauges was to hook up a 47 ohm resistor between the sender wire and ground. Gauge should fall somewhere in the middle.

That's cool Curtis. My vr has only one hole on the mounting bracket. I bench tested it and it pulsed sporadically from 0-10. Would die for a while, then maybe come back. So seems flakey. Maybe I will open up for kicks. AND NOW I CANT FIND MY STASH OF SPARES! Arrrrrrgh.

Work up(down)date:
-Connected temp sender wire to temp sender.
-got a variable power supply, set to 7.8v and connected to b/w and yellow wires that were connected to stock supply. b/w to input, output to yellow. Both supply grounds together to good ground
- Verified voltage at the test lead from supply to wire connections.
- neither gauge moved.
- varied the output voltage a bit up and down, still no action.
Now confused as the fuel gauge did move at least initially. Believe the gauge harness is visible up by the bottom of the dash and is plugged together. Bummed, thought I had it all figured out. Still digging for the extra original VRs. Hmmmm, focusing on driving it for now!
