Headlight Wiring Question
I am chasing many issues with the wiring on my 69 Roadster 1600.
Currently working on getting the headlights to work.
Can anyone tell me what this is or what connects to it? 2 red wires and 2 blacks wires with a square connector on the end. located closer to the alternator.
(When i attach the image jpeg file i get "The image file you tried to attach is invalid" how do i post a photo properly?)
Thanks

Re: Headlight Wiring Question
I have always loaded them to the photo gallery and then linked them. That was several version of software ago, but its always worked for me.
Sounds like the PO added a Bosch type relay.

Re: Headlight Wiring Question
The headlamp relay has 6 wires. 69-70 is a backward system as the headlamps are hot and the ground is through the relay.
It can be done with that Bosch 4 wire relay, but I did find a complete wiring diagram to confirm use as a grounding relay.

Re: Headlight Wiring Question
You need a 5 contact Bosch relay.

Re: Headlight Wiring Question
and download Curtis schematic, plow it up to 36 x 24 and get it laminated. A valuable work of art.

Re: Headlight Wiring Question
I'll try a 5 contact Bosch relay and i believe the 5th contact will be grounded like suggested above?
Thanks for the help and thank you Curtis for the link.

Re: Headlight Wiring Question
I am not entirely sure Curtis. As far as i know the car has been pulled apart and put back together by 2-3 different previous owners. The owner that i bought it from said the engine had a bent valve and he had started putting the wiring back together for the rear of the car (from his previous owner).
The wires in the front of the car look mostly factory although possibly have been added to or pulled apart. The car now runs and is tuned but after 5-10 minutes of running i noticed smoke coming from the fuze box area of the dash. since this discovery I've been working on getting the headlights to work.

Re: Headlight Wiring Question
So here is a photo of a 69 engine harness with a bit of the tape removed.
The other photo is a 69 engine harness for a relocated alternator to the passenger side.

Re: Headlight Wiring Question
@Mator,
Time to install a relay system for your headlights. There maybe something in Tech Wiki, but Victoria British sells a functional relay set that bypasses the wiring (except for controlling) - all power comes directly form the battery. And the headlights suddenly become BRIGHT.
