Re-installing quarter windows into the window frame

Post by Gornal »

Just trying to reinstall the quarter windows but cannot seem to get the window and pivot back in the frame with the new rubber. Any advice or tricks or pictures would be great to see.

Very frustrating process for something that appears to be so simple

thanks

I think when I did it I got a warm bowl of soapy water and soaked the strips before installing. It is a tight fit - worrying you’ll break the glass is probably par for the course.

thanks, did you install the rubber in the quarter window first? I have done this but can't then recall what side the pivot goes on and which way the windows pivot (inside or out from the rear).

thanks

Sorry, did that job about five years ago now; I can’t remember the particulars anymore...

Another trick I have seen done (this is more for long strips getting them to hold contour of door opening) is to put the rubber strips in the clothes dryer. Getting them hot makes them more pliable (but with rubber the heat makes them larger, so be careful trimming the ends, they may shrink back a good bit when cooled, like 1/8" or more) If putting extrusion into a grove in the frame, make sure all the old adhesive is cleaned out.

it is a very frustrating task for sure. The wings go out from the rear. When I did mine my wife wouldn't come near the shop.. I had what she calls "shop tourettes". My language is for the shop only.. any way I put the rubber in first and the pivot is on the outside.
Good Luck
