vacuum advance

Post by C.Costine »

I have been trying to rehab the vacuum advance on my 1967. I am talking about the plate assembly not the diaphragm part. It had gotten pretty badly rusted. Well, I cleaned it all out and put in the new bearings that Lorna sent me but it still operates very roughly and with a lot of resistance. So I went and got the one from my '68 parts car, and while the distributor looked very bad on the outside, the vacuum advance assembly worked much better. I am in the process of cleaning it up, and I intend to use it, but even though everything about it appears to be the same as the one from my '67, I want to be sure that they are the same. I know that the weights and springs in the centrifugal advance are different between the pre and post smog, but how about the vacuum?

The plates are all the same. If you can't get it to work smoothly, I can hook you up with a good used plate. PM me details if you need one.
