Wheel Hub Bolt Size

Post by Gornal »

Hi all,

I have been searching the forum but can't seem to find the specifics on wheel hub bolts. I am trying to find the specs and would like to know if I can get one from my local auto zone or similar? I have a '66 Roadster with front disc brakes if that helps and need to replace the front hub bolt for the wheel.

thanks in advance

Yes, you can get them from the local auto parts store.
If you are after the lug nut, its 7/16 x 20.
If you are looking for the stud, you can make the studs for a Corvair work.

Any specific year Corvair?.....Driving my 67.5 1600 home from work yesterday just enjoying the beautiful weather I hear a Ping!. I was in the fast lane of Hwy 26 going g about 65 mph so I got off the next exit. I discovered my rear drivers side wheel was hanging on by two lugs which were also backing off. One stud was sheared off.
I had to rob a lug off another wheel to get home. All in all it could of been worse.

What wheels are you running? If they're 280 ZX wheels you will need specific lug nuts. I would check ALL your lugs asap! I've seen lug nuts with the wrong pitch appear to tighten only to fly off later. Scary stuff man, be careful. Get this right.

Libres, repops/ US trans am. The lugs are shanked.
When I took off the wheel today the stud I thought snapped off actually backed off and was in the brake drum. I replaced all those studs as they weren't knurled and seated well.
I definitely got lucky and can't even imagine that wheel flying off on the freeway. I appreciate your concern and feel like dodged a bullet.

I'll check the box when I get home. I bought them from Oreillys. Under 2$ each.

Awesome thanks. Just went to O'Reilly's and they said they didn't stock them at all, but if you had the specific part number that would be great.
