Comparing body panels from 66 and 69

Post by etroxel »

Hi all, I’m hoping to tap some wisdom here. Does anyone know if the bolt patterns are the same for ‘66 and ‘69 front fender mounting locations, hoods, and trunk lids? It looks like the latch is different for the hoods, but I’d like to know that too. Has anyone successfully swapped these on their cars?

Thanks!

Latch is indeed different. Trunk and fenders should swap no problem. Some variation on the top rear of the fender, and flare difference. If you address the latch difference, hoods fit the same hole.

If it's any help I swapped the trunk lid from my '68 to my '67. I looked into swapping the hood but found it to be more rusty than the one from my '67.

The hood prop assembly is also a complete misfit. If its a race car, use some hood pins and a chain as the prop/stop since no one cares. If its a street car, by the time you address all the little differences in a proper fashion, you might be better off just finding the correct hood. been there-done this. The hood scoop is different too, but that is aesthetic only (except the 66 trim strip won't fit-requires the 69).

66-67,67.5,68,69-70 are all unique in their own ways. j

I was always under the impression that the lowwindshield fenders wouldn't fit highs, due to the difference in windshield construction.

Am I wrong?

The door is formed different for the windshield post, early-late. This contour varies car to car, as does the fender corner contour.
Both front fenders on My 68 are "67.5" but i only had to tighten the gap on the driver side.
I aquired a perfect 69 hood that will not fit on my 69. Gap to cowl is gigantic.
