Early center console restoration . . . lock question

Post by sfdaugherty »

I just finished restoring a center console for my SR20 car. I used parts from three different early consoles but the one lock I have doesn't look right and the top isn't even close to latching. Here are a some photos:

I have the latch on the top with one shim.

Do I have the correct lock?

Shannon,
You do not have the lock body placed properly.
Button should extend about 1/8" from the bezel.

Thanks Ted:

That makes sense. What I can't figure out is how I get it back in there without cutting. It doesn't fit through the back or front holes.

My lock doesn't have the "ears" that yours does that it bolts through.

Shannon,
There should be some notches on the bracket (under the blue fuzz? :? )At like 12 and 6.
Insert the body turn it 90 degrees and use a clip at the small body mounts to hold the lock body.
As I recall there are 2 clips. One holds the push button bezel
and one holds the lock body.

Nope: None of the three consoles I looked at have notches. The "blue fuzz" is the flocking I applied. More interesting than the original black flocking.

Any other ideas?

I think I'm missing one clip too.

i have no other early consoles to compare with.
Your lock body definitely is different than mine.
Looks like we need more help from the 311s community.

My lock looks much different than the one on rallye's site. Dann's looks like yours with the ears. I found a set of locks on ebay that has a console lock like mine. I think I need one with ears.

Here's mine.

Anyone have one for sale?

This is the one on rallye's site:
