Seat Bumper Replacement

Post by S Allen »

Working on the 67 2 liter seats. Really rusty frames and the drivers seat actually had extra foam because some of the straps were stretched beyond being serviceable. There are small rubber bumpers on each side of the seat which are pretty deteriorated. Any one already done this and find something that works? I may just go to ACE and look through there specialty hardware section to find something that will work. Going to look at getting these power coated and some new foam cut before reupholstering.

Steve:
Did you bring the seats west with you so you had something to work on in the winter months? :-)
Those Rubber bumpers tend to be very dense, and not mabye spongy like you are likely to find at a hardware store. You might try Restoration Specialties, pages 91-103. The seat back bumper here looks good for durometer, but not round. perhaps you could trim it? http://www.restorationspecialties.com/page_102.pdf or 11-125 here: http://www.restorationspecialties.com/page_103.pdf
I could scroll through their catalog for days. not a great website, but lots of stuff!

Yeah, come to think of it they do look like hood bumpers. Might try it to see if that works. Do you have those?

Interesting pix. I don't remember my 69' having bumpers behind the seat backs, so I went to the garage & took a look. my seat backs rest on adjustable steel knobs. BTW, when I get my mechanical stuff done & start the interior restoration, I need to find replacement straps for the seat bottoms. The driver-side straps collapsed many years ago, so I swapped seats ( yes, I have no co-pilots at present ). Someone suggested a general purpose upholstery shop, but perhaps a forum member has already gone the replacement route, & can give advice.

Thanks,

Garry S.
