Door rattles and buzzes

Post by SABLT194 »

I've been trying to track down door rattles and buzzes. I have the windows tight with new fuzzies, rubber, and channel strip. But, It seems that just about every connection point on the window regulator and the door latch mechanism can and will rattle and buzz like a flock of angry bees when I hit the right resonant frequency with the motor RPM. Anybody have any tricks on how to cure some of this? Or, shall I just chalk it up to the natural charm of a 4 banger sports car.

Some of the sounds may be just resonating within the tinny door enclosure. Maybe some sound deadening materials may help. My windows are never up (SoCal) so I never hear them. What's most annoying to me is the softtop frame that's always down and the buckles rattle like hell!

This may or may not help. After I finished restoration of my '66, my doors rattled at resonance. I Finally figured it out. I was missing this little rubber piece in the middle of the latch. All is quiet now.

Yep - I have those bumpers installed . My issues seem to be with the window regulator arms, channels, and the long bar from the handle that opens the door. Lots of joints in there.

My 68 has a couple of rubberish tubes over the long door latch arm.
That sort of idea might help som

I think that there is a stiff piece of plastic that 'embraces' the actuating rod from outside lock to inside handle which keeps rod from 'rattling' When I say 'embraces' it is a piece about 1 - 1.5 inches long with a hole at each end, through which the rod passes, so the plastic forms a kind of buffer.

Tough to 'splain!
