SU dashpot rod separated from cap, trick?

Post by FergO2k »

Backroads drive next weekend, giving her the once over.
Unscrewed the dashpot caps and found one rod separated. Trick here?
I was thinking to flatten / oval the end a bit with a ball peen, then cram it back into the cap.
Other ideas?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Thanks Peter, can always rely on friends.
I guess I was kinda overthinking it (because the trapped air kept pushing the tube out of the blind hole)
I “wallered” the end with a few light taps, then planted it back into the cap with a few more gentle taps. (It is a brass tube and I was thinking of my propensity for bending nails...). I made sure to measure the planted length when it was removable, then making sure to get back to it.

I am not much of a performance junkie, so have never been able to tell the difference in response between dashpot oils.

But what I can tell you for sure, is that reconnecting the dashpot piston/rod makes a big difference!

I refilled her with ATF and she wants to sing!

Merrily we roll along!
