Removing T/O Bearing
Hi All,
Doing my first clutch job on our '67 1600. Got the Pilot Bushing out, used a socket to knock a new one in. Think I have everything figured out, EXCEPT I cannot figure out how to get the Throwout bearing off the shaft its on. Any tips? Do I need a puller?

It's a press fit - best handled by a machine shop - for r AND r - IMHO.

Are you talking about the old bearing being stuck on the input shaft? It should be soft, bronze, try heat and cool, otherwise cut it off carefully with a Dremel or carefully yielded hacksaw. It shouldn't stick on the input shaft - if that's what happened, check to make sure that your input shaft is in good shape when you do get it off.

i may have missed the point - are you talking about the to bearing being on its carrier, or the actual transmission shaft??

Thanks for the response. I was referring to the bearing at the clutch fork. I was able to use grease and pressure to push the bronze bushing out of the flywheel. My clutch kit came with a new bearing at the clutch fork, however the old one seemed fine so I just left it on there. Putting it all back in now.

If you have a new throw out bearing I would use it, given you have to pull the engine for clutch work....

I can see where this would be ideally done with a puller and specialized equipment...but was not particularly difficult to tap the old T/O bearing carrier using an open vise to bridge across the bearing edges and the right socket to drive out the housing.
I pressed new bearing on using wood blocks and the same vise (between the jaws this time) to distribute load evenly. Took 20 min to clean everything and 10 min for bearing swap.

Thanks for all the info... I just read this all now that the engine is all put back in the car and the car is back running. Guess I'll wait for it to go and then I'll get to practice removing the engine again. CRAP! Oh well, love a project
