Starter turns slowly when hot?

Post by rednc69 »

My '69 2000 is having a problem starting when the engine is warm. When cold, it turns over easily, and fires immediately. When hot, the starter turns very slowly, as if binding. I checked the grounds, battery to engine and engine to frame, and all connections are clean and solid. Could the starter itself be binding when it's hot? Thanks,
Greg

I had the same issue and did all the checks that you did. I finally replaced the starter...fixed the issue.

Mine did it for years too...until I got sick of worrying if it would start every time I stopped at a gas station and changed it out.

Curtis makes a nice insulated starter wire harness that is very helpful.
