Idler Box Lube

Post by 23yrRebuild »

I'm looking for what is the best lube to use that will adequately lubricate the upper, and especially lower bushing in my rebuilt idler box....
Thanks
Mike

There has been a lot of discussion in the past about a liquid grease that Ross at Sports Imports has available to replace gear oil in the steering box, and I would presume the Idler box as well.

What you want is classified as EP00 pourable grease. You can get it pretty much anywhere in any brand. It is sometimes referred to as steering gear grease, while farmer types call it cornhead grease.

The steering box take gear oil (or cornhead grease as mentioned) the idler I believe has a zerk fitting and a good quality nlgi #2 grease should suffice. I use Lucas red n tacky but it's all about the same.
