thoughts on dynamat
I'm in the middle of putting different seats in the car (can't wait to get back home!) and I'll be filling in some holes, stripping the paint, applying rust inhibitor, and putting in new carpet. I'm wondering what the school of thought is on dynamat? Is it considered a 'must do'? Part of me wonders how much of a difference it'll makes with all of the other squeaks & rattles that the car has. Is noise the reason folks install it?

Re: thoughts on dynamat
I put it in most of the builds we do-- I like it for sound and heat suppression in our cars.

Re: thoughts on dynamat
I put dynamat in the '69 and lizardskin in the '68.
I like the dynamat better. I think that car is quieter and the floors don't get as warm.
Seems to be less resonance in the dynamat car.
I would up using two thicknesses of dynamat (actually fatmat) on the firewall on both cars. Got rid of the moldy, warped cardboard.

I used an aftermarket version on both my roadsters. Made a noticeable improvement. FWIW Pat

Re: thoughts on dynamat
My thoughts on dynamat. It's a great product sold at a premium price because it's a name brand.
Fatmat is a cheaper alternative. Or if you really don't care about brand names, look for mastic sheeting or foil backed mastic roof sheeting. It's foil backed self adhesive asphalt sheeting (dynamat)
Here is an example found at Lowe's

I used fatmat and peel and seal years ago on my Tacoma truck. Put it on the floors doors and back cab wall. The biggest thing I noticed was closing the doors. It went from thin light Toyota door closing sound to heavy solid Lexus door closing sound. Lol.
Also cut down lots of road noise and rattles.
My 2 cents.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Anyone know roughly how many square feet is required to do the interior on a Roadster?

ive heard the tar roofing stuff is a cheaper alternative.. athougth some brands are very stinky and need a period to off-gas. Leaving outside in the sun is a way to do it.Toptech360 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 07, 2018 10:00 pm My thoughts on dynamat. It's a great product sold at a premium price because it's a name brand.

I used a 'knock-off" of Dynamat similar to this one. Happy with results. Pat
