Glue in cardboard firewall panel kit??

Post by SABLT194 »

I'm planning to Dynamat my interior and then install a new reproduction interior firewall panel kit. The original kit was fastened with screws that poked thru the firewall into the engine compartment. I have closed all of those holes to detail the engine compartment. So, can I glue the new cardboard kit to the Dynamat? Anybody ever try this? Other ideas?

I don't see why not. Just use a decent contact adhesive.

If the cardboard panel purpose was insulation and you're doing a Dynamat on the firewall, why the cardboard?

My floor insulation is the style that is foil covered foam. I ran it up the firewall and then painted it with a satin black Sem vinyl coating rattle can (just the part that was on the firewall). The Sem vinyl coating adhered very well and is flexible. I did not want the heat from the hot engine compartment, and noise coming in. It works very well and was fairly cheap. If your dynamat is the aluminum foil style you could do what I did. I'll take a pic tomorrow.
