its VERY small, so it can be installed on the drivers side, but the details have not been published. Its so small, the heat may not be an issue.
You can do it......
So you can keep you AC compressor?.....LOL

  • Lester Part No. 7127-3, 63A
  • Terminal #2 Sensing (red wire) attached to insulated BAT post on alternator, same post that you connect another wire to POS (+) of battery.
  • Terminal #1 Field (black wire) not connected and taped off.

Your right the denso and Delco do wire up the same EXCEPT that you need to hook terminal 2 sensing wire to a key on 12v source other wise the the denso will think it's always "on" if hooked to a constant power and will cause a parasitic drain.

Phil,
My alt is good and I have a spare, but having a brand new , not rebuilt alt that is cheap enough and I can put in the same spot is appealing. At least to put on my ToDo list :)

The Datsun Roadster Bookâ„¢, Part II, Pages 115-117 discusses the GM alt, including a pic of a GM alt installed on the driver's (left) side of the engine.

The Denso would fit easily and get more air flow. Might not cook over time.

We'll folks it's been a few months since I have installed the ebay Kubota/denso alternator. I wanted to update the thread a bit.

So far I have had zero issues. This is a slick setup and because of its small size it looks like the alternator belongs under the hood. I've driven the car a few times now along several long stretches topping out around 90mph at near 6000 engine crank rpm and the alternator doesn't seem to care about high rpm at all. Most of the time I cruise between 3200 to 4000rpm which is probably 8000 to 10,000+ alternator rpm and again, no problems or quirks to report.

That is all. Thank you

Hey Dan
Glad your set up is working well. I got tired of the VRs and the stock set up not working right or for long, so in process with a similar right hand alt that is smaller. Just trying to work out the hardware .

Hah, Funny you should mention it, we just finished a kit for RH 68-70 use. May do a Denso kit for 68-70 too, but the pulley offset is not quite correct so requires a different spacer set. I’ll do some photos and put it up on the webpage soon. Feel free to pm or email if you need one// j

My father in law had a GM alt conversion done many years ago, it looked like the alternator mount (on distributor side of engine) had been shortened and also a different (unknown) adjusting arm/top mount was used to make the conversion work. The denso alternator is essentially identical to the GM as far as the mounting goes. It was almost a direct bolt in for converting from the GM to the denso. I had to use a shorter drive belt but otherwise that was about it.

By the way still working with no issues! It's been one of my favorite "mods" I've done to the car.

That would work if you went from GM to Denso, but starting from scratch would be different.
Any ideas on "arm" used?
