The captive nuts common to the column bolts on the firewall have a wee bit of play or adjustment. There are two bolts on the dash support forward of the speedometer. Loosen them and see if you can drop the steering colum tube down 1/16”or 1/8”.
You may have to add a shim to the support behind the speedo if it works.
Should be easier than shimming the motor mounts and the transmission mount.

1600 SU's are plentiful-practically throw-aways.

Suggest you take those off and sell them as 510 SSS carbs, and buy some correct spl carbs in the mean time.

If you keep damaging the float bowls no one will want them.

Looks more like 411 SSS carbs. 510 SSS carbs are more similar to 311 crabs.

Do they match what you have on your 68 510? Maybe you have Roadster carbs there
:)

Sorry, yes 411 with the angled bowl I think?? Pretty rare out this way, not many of those on the east coast!

Sure. Pony upthe money and buy a set of rebuilt stock carbs. We have vendors whoo do a great job. Heck if there is demand for the one you have, you might be able to get some value on a trade in.
There are other options but none as cost effective are time tested as ghe stockers.
