Trunked!
So there it is, key is stuck in the lock, will not come out. Same key for gas cap. If you all recall, my safety cable burned itself in half and I have not replaced it. WTF do we do now?

Re: Trunked!
Spray some PB Blaster into the key, press down on trunk and try to turn key. Try Ted's suggestions

Re: Trunked!
And don't forget to put a trip wire on the front hood latch as well, while you are at it....

Re: Trunked!
I had this exact problem last fall -- on a road trip with all of my luggage in the trunk! Couldn't get the wire trick to work so I had to wait until I got home to fix the problem.
My neighbor is a locksmith. After half an hour of trying other things, He stuck a really long flat head screwdriver through the drain hole, and was able to pop out the U-shaped retaining clip that holds the lock in place in about 3 tries. Once the clip is out, you can pass the lock through the hole and open the trunk.

The hood indeed! Where is best place to route that wire?

Re: Trunked!
I took it across the upper apron, made a loop that goes around one of the hood rubber supports, so that I could fish it from the outside.
Mot others (and this is the better method, go figure) took it down into drivers footwell. Picture hanging it wire works good, put a loop in the handle end as well.

Re: Trunked!
You can do this quite neatly.
Using bike cable, with some kind of 'end', put the 'end' into the lock and run it through the firewall ( sheathed in usual bike cable housing. Currently, I just have mine laying on the floor, but ultimately I will fabricate a 2nd 'knob' suitably reinforced just below the current 'knob'.
Similarly with the trunk lock, though I modified Eliza to remove the lock/key mechanism.
Backups are vital, 'cos the consequences can be majorly frustrating.

Re: Trunked!
What actually causes the hood latch to fail? Other than putting in a trip wire, what should I check so this doesn't happen?

Re: Trunked!
the guillotine is not fixed. If it does not return to the nested position, the hood pin will not engage.
Sloppy guillotine
Hood pin adjusted too long
Pin adjusted too short
Stiff cable
Cable clamp too tight
Cable clamp too loose
The hood release cable does not have a crimped barrel on the latch end which makes the sheath clamp point weak. Too tight and the cable doesnt function back and forth. Too loose and it pulls out of the clamp point.
Sometimes the cable pulls out of the locknut.
I close the trunk lid with 2 fingers. Compress the the seal and ckick. Delicately.
