Backup/reverse light bulb

Post by Randalla »

Checked the Tech Wiki but the correct bulb for the lamp that hangs below the bumper is not listed. Does anybody know what the correct one is. An 1156 fits, but doesn't work. Might be something else, but I want to make sure I'm using the right bulb.

Why doesnt it work? A backup lamp is usually brighter than an 1156 tail/park lamp @7w.
Check the 7506 25w, and 1073 23w.
No idea what should be in there.

The owner's manual says 12v 15w. I believe without looking it is the BA15 base like the tail lights but a smaller bulb size.
LIke this?

I just went and looked my box of reverse lights. I tried a 1156 bulb in it and it is right up against the glass so you do need the smaller bulb.

The bulb to use depends on the orientation of your socket.

I have come across 2 types:

A standard 1156 bulb will work in the sideways configuration, but is too tall for the head on configuration. There is a shorter version. I can’t read the text on mine. Check what you have in your license plate light, if it is on the bumper. It is likely the same.

For a sideways socket, I wouldn’t advise an LED since LEDs are directional and a bulb with a bunch of LED chips will be too big.

For a head on socket, there are shallow LED bulbs with a BA15S base that should work. Check eBay or Amazon.

Thx, I think that should work, I have the center socket configuration, so I ordered. Will post the results after installation.
Thx for help :)
License bulb is next, Tech Wiki says an 89 bulb.

I used similar bulbs in amber and red for the side markers on my Z. They should work for side markers for ‘70 Roadsters and 510s too.
