Solex cooling body

Post by cktrap »

What is the function of the two nipples coming out of the cooling body. Do they need to be connected to anything? Item 85
Thanks

It's for racing. You can run cooler fuel through those to cool the gas in the bowls. Someone on here has rigged it all up but I don't think it was very helpful.

Makes you think, if you got one of the liquid CPU coolers with or without a a peltier junction and piped it in, would be great for summer traffic.

Just an FYI

The function of the cooling body is to keep fuel from boiling in the float bowl. It’s not designed to have water run through as it would be hot if you used the water from the cooling system. Also water would corrode the carburetor body with water. The idea was to use cool fuel from the fuel tank and continuously recirculate it. This works a lot like the SU recirculation valve on the rear carb that keeps fuel cool in the fuel line to prevent vapor lock.

Thanks Dave. So basically I don't need to do anything with them.

Thats why many 80s carbs use a phenelic (plastic like) bowl or mid section
My 85 D50 PU had a water passage to the base plate ,above the radiator , if it got a bit low the steam centered at the carb.
you hit a hill and the bowl would boil giving a bucking condition ... I called it... riden old blue

My car has the return fuel set up with fuel through the bottom of the carbs with factory 4 way splitter.

The hose is smaller for cooling line.
