I have a braille battery in my race car (350Z) . It's the 15 lbs version. Works great on it.

Thats an AGM battery. Not a Lipo.
Its a sealed lead acid battery.

Ah. Ok. I guess Li-ion is still out of my price range.

I was shopping for one a month ago. Yikes!!!
I've been wondering about using a motorcycle battery. I saw an SR20DET powered S130 this summer that was being started by a battery from a lawn mower. The AGM battery I used to start and run my Gold Wing 1500 as less than a third the size of the batteries in my roadsters.
If a guy used one of those lipo jump starters as backup you'd be safe.

You can use a lawn tractor battery for a stock roadster as they use very few CCAs. I don't know what an Sr takes.

I think the deka battery I mentioned above is a Honda motorcycle battery, some folks with v-8's use them. I am a litttle cautious yet re lithium ion. If there was a strip I could plug a few of my drill/driver batteries into......
I think a battery tender is probably a good idea with any of the smaller batteries.

I have a 60 amp alternator in the 1600. If the battery was clear dead, I'd think that small battery would get pretty warm as it charged.
It's one of those things that sounds good (small battery takes less room and less weight) but I'd think if it was really a good reliable solution, GM would be doing it.

I would be careful about using an Li-Ion battery in our cars. If it is overcharged, and/or overheated, it can catch fire. This is why we can't carry them in checked luggage on an aircraft. Battery shorts against piece of metal in bag and then will catch fire.

I used a small Odyssey battery in the stock location. No added weight from a heavy battery cable to relocate it, and the install was really easy

I realize this is an old thread but there is one further thing that I have always been concerned with when relocating the battery to the trunk.

Because the battery cable has to run the length of the car it is more likely (not probable) that there could be a short which could cook the car. If I were to move my battery I would add a starter solenoid (like what ford uses, mounted to the fender well) at the battery in the battery cable that runs to the starter. Connect the start wire to the new solenoid so that the battery cable would only be hot when you are starting the car. You would need to run a fused at the battery #12 or #10 from the battery to the front to power everything that was powered from the battery cable at the starter. Just seems so much safer.

Pat

I use three positive cables with my trunk mount.
Direct to the starter from solenoid in trunk.
One each from the alternator to the battery and one from the battery to a power distribution point on the fire wall. Each of those two go through trunk mounted breakers.
There is also a trunk mounted cutoff switch

A small, light, Odyssey PC680, in a lay-down aluminum case, in the OEM location, with a rotary cut-off/kill-switch.
