Having two drivers with 10" of height difference made the stock belts a real pain. Mounted the retractor on the rear wheel well like Garth's photo above. So nice to just get in, pull and clip.

My car is a 1968 with Miata seats and a roll bar. Do I need to worry about the legal aspect of four point or three point? The OEM belts were just lap belts. The laws went into affect in 1966 for 1968 cars. I'm thinking because it is an antique I can put in what ever type of seat belts I want? I really like the look of the four point but will probably like the three point better for its ease of use and comfort. I can't imagine a cop giving me a ticket for the wrong kind of belts. I hope I'm right...

I used to have a problem with my shoulder belt falling to the side of my seats. I bought a Mini Cooper shoulder belt holder clip. I cut the stainless round bars and the plastic clip to accommodate the distance between the verticals of the headrest bars. I joined the clip together and epoxied the bottom.

But just be aware of the ergonomics.

Let's get to the facts,

The ONLY appropriate config in a convertible is a roll bar and an appropriate 3 point, or better, harness. PERIOD.

In our cars, to be specific, lap belts make your face a target, shoulder belts constrict, compress your spine, and only on ONE side. Chiropractics are waiting for you.

FWIW, others will assuredly chime in with better knowledge than I.

Schroth Ralley Cross 4 point at $500 a pair or RetroBelt 4 point for $120? (Schroth let me add more cost with add-on's.) Schroth says there belts prevent submarining, Retro does not...
Both say they are street legal. Crap, I already know which one... Can't go cheap now, can I?

Went with the Schroth with the ASM built in after watching the crash test dummies without it. The third choice was Takata but they were even more expensive.

Talking with the tech at Schroth I discovered that the ASM devise should be behind the seat and forward of the mounting point. So this photo is only the correct mounting without ASM. It takes about 6 to 8 inches of space to have the ASM.
