Wallace & Gromit - Oops no, I mean grommets.

Post by Curtis »

I looked in the tech wiki and it seems that there is no list of all the grommet sizes. Anyone have a list from front to back for all the various places?

A couple of vendors sell kits that contain them all.
I believe they even list where they go.

Yes, I know. What I want is the sizes so if I don't want to spend $100 on a kit or pay for shipping for a couple grommets I can get something else. Guess I'll make up a list this weekend.

Turns out Nissan still sells some of them or at least the one I am looking for. Cheaper and free shipping.

Marine canvas folks will stock most of the usual sizes, and are always willing to sell singles for cash.

I am going to need a bunch, and was a little dismayed by the prices at the roadster sites. I looked at my local hardware, and they will have most of what I need at about 1/20th the prices of the Datsun Roadster sites. I also came across an assortment on line for $12.99.

Make sure they are stainless or chrome plated, else they'll be rusty crusties in very short order.

I could be wrong, but I think he means rubber grommets.

Oh crap, that was obvious, why would there be any more than one size, unless they are firewall/wiring grommets.

The only one you likely won't find is the "choke" grommet. Has two little holes for the cables.

And for those of you who REALLY want to know, but didn't know you did,

1620s, "ring or wreath of rope," from obsolete French gromette "curb of a bridle" (Modern French gourmette), from gourmer "to curb," of uncertain origin. Extended sense of "metal eyelet" first recorded 1769.

Ooo, education too. Keep it coming.

Checked this morning and most are 31mm and 21mm. Ordered 20 from Nissan although I don't know what size I'm getting. At $0.81 each I don't care.

Harbor Freight has a 180 piece box of grommets:

Question is how many of the 180 could you actually use? And I want the ones in the firewall to look stock. The ones in the trunk no one can see so it really doesn't matter there.

After searching I found I can get an almost exact match for both sizes. Once I find out which size I'm getting from Nissan I can order the other. The kit from the vendors has too much stuff for what I am doing. I only need the two sizes.

If you want them to be stock then they might not work. But enough fit for the price otherwise.

Does anyone know the size of the large wire grommet under the dash, near the hood release knob? Round, black, push in type, just like the other firewall grommets.
McMaster Carr has a bunch
