This one is a new short clutch master cylinder that Lou and I have been working on for the US cars, it will be available from Ross in a month or so.

I won't mention what it is off but will say that there were 7 changes made to it so that when purchased from Ross it is a bolt in deal.

in the photo the top one is the standard one.

In this next photo you can see that with double air filters and late model cover there is plenty of clearance.

At the moment I am running 60mm rams with double filters but will soon switch to 75mm rams with an 80mm aircleaner clears as well.

Here I have some diff baffles that were made by Hardy in Melbourne, really nicely made as is everything he makes.

Here is Lou with some new earrings, doesn't he look fabulous...

Lou has put together aIts the old style -163 nissan sp/sr lsd diff they used till the late 80's. He had pinion gears made and converted it to 4 pinion. managed to find 22 brand new spring plates it runs 60-65 ft/lbs breakaway. plenty for a road car.

I have gone for a 3.9 ratio as I have been using a load 3.7 diff from Rod T.

The diff is back in and feels great and the 3.9 ratio seems like a good compromise for me.

Is the shorter clutch body just for clearance, or does it provide other benefits, i.e. - shorter travel, easier operation etc,??

The diff baffle works by keeping oil around the diff centre even under heavy cornering, you can see that the axle goes through the hole in the center and there is a return lip that stops oil passing, you can also see that there is a raised groove that allows any oil the has got past the baffle to return to the centre.

notoptoy,

The benefit with the master cylinder is clearance, allowing the use of longer rams tubes and larger air filters.

The longer rams give much better torque in the lower rev range ideally when used with longer pipes ( exhaust manifold, extractors ).

Hello Rob,

I am coming WAY late to this thread and the journey of Victor's car - now your car with a TON of your work to make it your own. Like Victor, I had some pretty serious health issues some years back which prevented me from driving my own car as well as participating in the Roadster life in Southern California.

Way back then (2000-2001) I was working to restore a 1967.5 2000 - and because Victor was considered an authority on all things roadster, I reached out to him and the rest of the roadster community to help me and of course everyone responded with enthusiasm.

So to the point - the solex carbs that came on the U20 engine for my car where the "late" version. I was able to locate the earlier correct version of the solexes for my restoration and so in thanks for all the work and help that Victor had given me, I gave him my late model solexes as he had bought his car with SU carburetors.

I know that you have made many changes and improvements to Vic's (Now Rob's) roadster, but I like to think a little bit of my car is now in your car. One thing I have found over the years is that just about everyone has a part from someone else on their cars - and that is the way it should be.

Have fun and I am so glad Vic's care went to such a good home!

Hi Andrew and Shari,

Very nice to hear from you, and about how the car came to have Solex's.

I see you live in Pomona, I think I was on a bus from SF to Sebastopol and we stopped in Pomona on the way, I think in about maybe 2001.

A nice part of the world in which you live.

The car has been great for me with a new bunch of friends as well.

This car has a life of its own and has travelled quite a lot even in the last few weeks we came back from a 4,000 km trip two states away where we drove the Adelaide Hills with 10 or so other roadsters from 3 different states.

Spyder,

If you have an early type lsd Lou can convert it from two to four gears, he has had a few sets made as well as the 4 way mounting.

Superb pics, I am loving that maroon car with the color matched dash pad.
SF to Sebastopol stopped in Sonoma, which is, umm, somewhat like Pomona, you just have to squint a bit. ?

Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.
