I can't really give the numbers as it wasn't my engine, and I have to say we haven't finished yet, meaning that we were able to get an extra 22ft-lb of torque at 4-4500 revs which is pretty incredible when you think about it, but the carbs would not meter the fuel properly at over 4500 revs. Even when we changed the fuel main jets up we couldn,t get it to work. It ran very lean it that point.
We even tried pieces of hose over the auxiliary venturis (making them longer) trying to calm the area where the fuel is metered from as the pressure inside the tube or carb at that length ram tube is too high for the carbs.

If you have fuel injection then it is a different story as the fuel is sprayed under pressure much closer to the cylinder head.

Anyway we are working on an couple of other ideas to overcome this pressure issue, one being a kind of plenum between the carbs and the manifold.

I have designed something that we will try and now have to do some more fabrication and a new set of rams this time to use on 44mm carbs.

Obviousely you can't fit 170mm straight ram tube into a roadster engine bay, this is why we made curved ones as well to try, they performed only slightly lower than the straight ones but had the same pressure issue.

I am guessing it will be a couple of months before we go on the dyno with the new setups.

It was a Lou spec non-stroked U20, just over 2ltr , if you listen to the videos of the tests you can hear that the sound is quite different, a much lower growl....

And Yes I am enjoying the ride and working with Rod T and Lou M as we are trying things and learning along the way.

In talking with Rod T, the owner of the engine he mentioned that it is ok to tell what numbers his engine is producing.

As mentioned before it is just over 2ltrs with light Lou M internals with a low 10 comp ratio, as it stands this is a fast street engine, not a full on race engine.

After trying lots of ram tubes, and considering that we could not get the longer rams to work over 4500 revs we concentrated on working out what length rams would fit inside an aircleaner inside the engine bay.

This worked out to be 75mm long, keeping in mind that this engine has long tuned length extractors.

Also in the case of this engine set up the 50mm Solex carbs were worth 13hp more @7000 revs, over the 44mm carbs.

So the top hp was 196hp @ 7000 and also @ 7250 highest torque was 166ft lbs @5500 revs.

What we want to achieve is what was happening with the 170mm long rams where we had 161ft lbs of torque @4000 and 4500 but with the carbs working in the higher revs as well.

Dave Premo has been very helpful with some ideas that we will try in the coming months.

The front is tighter now, you can feel the springs and shocks working more whereas before when you hit a bump the springs and shocks would do part of the job then the chassis would flex the rest.

Is it a scratch built component or did you retrofit a piece from a modern car? Looks like some precisin stamping...

More great work. Keep it up - it is inspiring to see. Does your Z still get any attention?

Thanks.

It is a 65' - 66' Mustang GT350 Shelby Export Brace, a thicker version that is 3mm (1/8") thick.

I bought it from Ebay.

I wanted something that was from the same period.

I had to make a bracket that bolts to the firewall, I had to drill 6 holes, where the three planes meet so that the pressure is transferred as evenly as poss.

The ends of the brace I had to flatten in a 20ton press, then cut and weld "L" shapes to mount under the fender bolts with 3 holes instead of just one.

This way it just clears everything, I had all the nuts welded in place so that is is easier to remove.

As for my Z, unfortunately it waits patiently as I play with her older cousin, each year I say after Christmas I will start back on her.

I have been thinking of a few things to change which will be shorter intercooler plumbing and smaller intercooler.

Yes you may use this idea, as you may know the engine bay is a large open topped box with no cross bracing and apparently the firewall can separate from the tunnel, I will have to check mine when it is up on a hoist.

Having worked for an Australian company, I was exposed to Vegemite fairly regularly. Never did acquire a love for it. Spread really thin on toast and it was bearable! :-)
