Carb options

Post by Minh »

I got U20, this is my understanding...

These are siddraft carburator options:

SU (stock)
Solex (stock/pricy)
Mikuni (pricy)
Weber (custom fitted)
TWM (custom fitted)
Dellorto (custom fitted)

Which one has the best overall ownership satisfaction (tuning, performance, maintenance, parts, price)?

Here is the question which one is best (excluding SU) for power and street use? (or is it all up to the tuning adjustments)

Well, this is what I know:

SU is stock
Mikuni/Solex is stock for some early cars and non-North America cars
Solex (the German carb), Weber, Dellorto, TWM, SK Racing - to install take the stock Mikuni/Solex manifold, so you are looking at a chunk of the money as is. The big selling point on the Mikuni/solex carbs is that they are a known quantity. There are several sites/people that can give you their setups and it will get you close. On the other carbs, you are on your own. Price will be similar for all of the carbs. The TWM unit is for fuel injection, so it would be more money, but possibly better tractability with a crazy cam and better all around power once it is setup properly. Once again, you will be on your own...

Mikunis

Once set the Mikunis don't seem to come out of ajustment. The balance might shift a little but beyond that they stay set.
