U20 Thermostat gasket parts cross-list

Post by guyatou »

Does anybody happen to know if the thermostat gasket in the 2 liter engine happens to fit any other vehicles? I just destroyed my temp sending unit (surprise surprise) and i think I will need to remove the thermostat housing to get it out. With the holiday weekend here, I'd hate to park the car for a week waiting on parts, but none of the chains seem to have the gasket listed. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

I always make my own out of gasket material. You will want a hole punch too. You will need to add a small "tab"of copper wire in the gasket to ground the sender... If you decide to go this route PM me and I'll explain further...

60s small block Chevy t-stat fits. The gasket needs to be trimmed a little.

Ooo, that's good to know. Any SB Chevy, '60s era? I know they didnt change much! I assume you need to add the grounding tab?

Yes, you need to add the grounding tab. Copper foil from a stained glass studio works great.

I hear that a staple also works...

A staple is kind of thick. The foil is nice copper material and is thin, but quite conductive.
