:D Well, back on topic.

Exhaust manifold still not out, taking a break from that headache for now.

Brake master unfrozen! I soaked and soaked it, and freed the piston. Amazingly enough the bore looks quite clean with no pitting or scoring. Next, put it all together and do a bench test. After cleaning it all up the rubber looks good. Who knows the roadster gods could smile on me. Rebuild kit is however on standby.

It turns out I have an earlier 1500 earlier cylinder in there, a Nabco 7/8ths. I'll be happy to get it working again.

Then we'll see the condition of the four corners.

Fingers crossed.

You get to fly out and remove the manifold.
Ya! What Dave said!

Frank Zappa is correct! Well done... what I have for you looks like a "telefunkin U47, with leather"...

Ok, I'll stop hyjacking this thread for my own entertainment!

But damn, you guys are good!

Hijack away, I don't care. I'm taking a break from this damn thing. It's gone from bad to worse.

Before I proceed, I realized this is turning into a sort of a Roman's roadster blog. If y'all are entertained , good. If it is wasted bandwidth, sorry.

Anyway,
The decision was made to jack up the motor and/or move it to the right an inch or two to obtain the room to remove the offending manifold.

It turns out that on each side of the frame, the one of the captured nuts are gone and a nut and bolt is in it's place.... ok, no big deal.

Then disaster struck. One motor mount bolt broke!!!!!!! One of the two remaining captured nut bolts.
This changes plans, for I cannot see how that bolt can be easily drilled out of the frame with the motor in there. I guess from underneath with a reverse easy out or some such thing.

The hell with it. I'm pulling the motor. Imagine a nice empty engine bay in need of cleaning, painting, repairing etc. You know, the "while we are at it" syndrome.

Right now though, I'm taking a break. I'll be back when I feel like it, then I'll bring some more of my babble and torturous photos of progress. :smt006

Roman,
Taking the engine out is the best idea.

You might be able to reach in and cut the welds of the captured nut with a Dremel with a small cutoff wheel.
Cut the welds most of the way and hit it with a chisel or punch.

Yes, there were two that had welded in nuts, and two that had bolts and nuts. At least on the cars I have pulled engines on...

That's how mine is!

Roman, I have to tell you, this is the consequence of allowing the 911 to overshadow your Roadster... She's mad at you and wonders if you love her still. Women!!! :smt003

It just goes to show how much you forget about your women if you abandon them.(Sigh), but I have forgotten so much.

Funny thing, I have pulled a few motors and had gotten to the point where I could remove and replace one by myself rather quickly.

Success!!!!!

The exhaust manifold is out. Jacking up the motor and taking out the starter did the trick.

Also,
Radiator gone, starter gone, fuel pump gone, alternator gone, glass fuel filter gone.

This thing is getting stripped bare bones.

Getting ready for clean, paint, repair or replace.

Damn! I finally get my manifold out and the site crashes.

Here is an empty shot, the bay is getting bigger and the motor is getting smaller.

After all that work and trouble I couldn't resist seeing how the header fit. After the stock manifold ordeal this was like a walk in the park, slid right in.

Well well, moving forward. :D

:smt023 We have some major progress but no pics.

1) reorganized the shop to make room for the car. Then I had to reorganize again so I wouldn't lose any function of the shop. It is after all a guitar shop and needs to function as such

2) Car is in! Jacks and jackstands are nearby.

Nothing real exciting except a lot of PB blaster. Man, are some of those bolts frozen! I sure don't want a repeat of the motor mount to frame bolt incident. So lots of PB blaster.
I did manage to get my thermostat tower off without incident (after about four days of soaking in PB)

All things considered, Just having the car indoors to work on is a major change from being outside neglected under a tap for over a decade.

Plus it is good for me cause there there are no more attacks from mosquitoes once it is time to work on the car. :smt023

I dunno about your fee Greg. So far the only relationship advances are that she would never leave me. No promise to not make my life a living hell.
