After taking a close look I didn't see anyway of installing my speakers under the soft top and still remaining completely stealth. I park this car on the street in San Francisco and Oakland when I'm out and about. I don't want some crack head ripping up my car for cheap speakers. So, I bought one of these for my house the other day and decided to try it in the roadster:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0061J ... 00_s00_i00" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It has incredible sound and is very loud. I just through it in my bag when I'm leaving. It more than solves my problem until I figure out a permanent solution. Plus, i can bring my tunes with me when I get to my destination!

Now that is not a bad idea at all... Where do you keep it in the roadster when you are driving? Passenger's lap isn't ideal... Does it project enough if you leave it on the package shelf?

So, this thing is loud and the clarity is incredible. But, you hit the nail on the head in terms of the one problem... where to put it. If I put it behind the seat the sound quality is a little muffled (but still great). It sounds best on the passenger seat, but it'll go flying if I brake hard. I'll keep you posted, but so far I'm very satisfied. They do have a smaller version, but I haven't heard it yet.

I was checking out the JBL Flip speaker at Best Buy. Sounds better than the Jawbone , to me, is really loud for it's size, is Bluetooth, very portable, and about $100. Anyone else check this one out? I want something small and portable
I notice it is getting great reviews too.

I just got the JBL Flip speaker for my car. I heard it at Best Buy and thought it sounded better than the Dr Dre Pill or the Jawbone for a buetooth speaker, and less expensive. It puts out a nice clear sound. And I can take it with me. Great reviews too.
Recommended.

Has anyone done any dash surgery and mounted speakers in the dash pad? Bounce off the glass style?

It;s a great idea, all of these bluetooth speakers. Sound when and where you want it, car, patio park etc. If you have a laptop with bluetooth, great for at home too. Wonder if it works with an Ipad?

Yup, works with ipad or any bluetooth device. I've been using my iphone. Although, now that I installed my miata seats I'm completely rethinking my music situation. Maybe hidden amp and upgrading the headrest speakers? I have a disease...

How do you power it? Do you let it run on its own and recharge or do you hook it up to the car.

The Jambox has 11 hour battery life, but it also has a cigarette lighter adapter.

The JBL Flip does not come with a car charger but that is easy to get. Battery life is 6 hrs officially I believe. You can play it plugged in.
I like the idea of not having anything to attract theft.
You still could hide the speaker though and bring it out as needed.
Works with ipod, phone, ipad.

Do you have the big Jambox or the little one?

JBL on the dash, I may try velcro or something to keep it there.
