Voltmeter vs. ammmeter

Post by spyder »

I did as search but was unsuccessful in finding a thread where I thought someone had replaced their tall windshield ammeter with a volt meter. Ring any bells? I won't be using the ammeter because it is bypassed under the hood and want to put a voltmeter in its place.

Thanks in advance;
Phil!

It is indeed an Autometer 2362. It had threaded posts like the original ammeter. I had to flatten and elongate the openings on the back of the cluster. I also had to trim the plastic piece which the numbers are printed and add some material to approximate the triangularish shape of the original gauge. I also snipped the needle.

Feeling emboldened, I am going to try the same process on the tach. The engine has no dizzy so the original mechanical tach has not worked for years.

I will post some more crappy pictures when I do the tach!

heh.

I have the e-dizzy, how would i hook up an electronic tach like the one spyder mentions? Just take a coil wire?

Here is the instructions.

https://www.autometer.com/pub/media/man ... 0-468X.pdf

It says DON'T connect it to a capacitive ignition, as in a MSD-5. I don't think an e-dizzy is such.

E-dizzie is NOT capacitive discharge and you should be fine!
