Distributor problems

Post by C.Costine »

I removed my distributor for general cleaning and checking, and found serious problems. Both the centrifugal and vacuum advances were stuck and not moving. The problem with the centrifugal was that the advance tube was stuck to the shaft by old dried grease. It took some work but I got it feed up and reassembled with some light Lubriplate white grease. The centrifugal also had a broken spring, and I have replacements for both springs ordered. The actual vacuum advance unit was working OK but the plate was hung up, again by hardened grease that was keeping ball bearings that press against the underside of the plate. These old assemblies need attention every thirty years or so.
