Show me your door window trim for a SRL311

Post by marcus550 »

I have a stock style rubber trim piece that goes on top of the door and squeegees(?) against the window. The old trim appears to be installed wrong and it looks like wrinkled bacon. So...how is this rubber trim strip supposed to go in? I have a 1970 2000. I've seen some pics of the older cars but I believe they're different.

How does the trim strip fix to the door?
Does the long thin side go against the window or the toward the outside of the door?
Is it supposed to get sucked up when the window rolls down?

If this doesn't work out, I'll get the updated rubber trim. Didn't know about that when I ordered these but now I want to make them work if possible.

The old door squeegees were notoriously bad and get sucked down when you roll the window down.

Last year I bought a set of Dean's updated formula squeegees and I really like them. They get glued to the top of the door, and don't get sucked down.

Yeah, the squeegees did get sucked down with the window when they were 1st installed but I seem to remember that once they took a bit of a "set", that was less of a problem. The wrinkled bacon look means the squeegee is too "short"; you need to stretch it out slightly end to end and the wrinkled look should go away.

The stock rubber strips from Nissan were so bad, I ordered a set of new-and-improved from Dean. I got the driver's side installed but the other stock Nissan trim strip apparently was an extrusion fail. It was so short on the side that overlaps the door sheetmetal it left a significant gap. I would still like to see some pics of it installed!

My Datsun Roadster has not seen the light of day in the four months I've owned it, so all the pictures I have of it are not presentable! I bought it from a dealer in the Dallas area selling cars on eBay. "Restored" and "Runs Great" the ad said. It showed up with a bent valve, leaking brakes, missing trim, wrong distributor advance, etc., etc. Close to $2k later, I'm closer to driving it. Until the car pays me back, I'll use the Spyder avatar.

Marcus, the stock version of the window seal can work but the one Dean sells is way better. I have both and the stock one does drag on the window and fold over about half the time. The remade one from Dean doesn't seem to do that at all.

If you were closer I'd let you drive one of my roadsters for a couple days just to make you feel better...

I'm real close to being on the road. The frame and body look great but they apparently stopped there during the 'restoration' and just threw the rest of it back together. I was down to installing the air filter housing and noticed 3 of the 4 bolt holes were stripped on the carbs. Geez. Not sure if I should helicoil them or just tap them one size bigger. They're INSIDE the air filter so I'm leary of anything loose in there!

I second the heli coil. It is easy to do in the alum and it will be permanent.
