Garm's 1969 project

Post by Garm »

As I bought it in DEC 2011. Barely made it home, but she did make it. (Look Mom, no brakes!)

Jan 2012

Cleaned her up a little. Got the motor running pretty good, still removing smog equipment. More goodies on the way to make it run even better. Removed bumper guards. Added amber foglights (bought them for the Subaru 360, but they didn't fit on the bumper).

Nice to see pics Garm! Looks like you have a really nice space to wrench in, huge open and clean - very nice. I guess, you'll be adding a few more projects in there soon?
Looking forward to more of your posts.

Cleaning and polishing begins. I was on it til 10:30pm last night. Must be in love or something.
Hardened fuel lines replaced.
All emissions equipment now removed (pump, lines), and holes plugged.
Removed soft top (clean look!)
Added velocity stacks - sexy!

E-distributor, coil and plug wires have arrived
Small battery on order
Fan mods (not sure which way to go with this yet)
bushings, bushings and more bushings....

thanks notoptoy -- I have a few more cars to squeeze in there. For now, it's difficult to misplace parts & tools - that's a good thing for me.

Very cool! The car looks like a solid all-there great starting point. Gotta love those CA black plates too.

The brake master looks pretty good in the photos. What was/is the brake problem?

Looking fwd to following your progress - it looks like you have a pretty nice garage (even if there is a spitfire in there ;-).

Cheers

Tried my best to hide the English monster.

Brakes are just old and have been sitting. I have fresh pads, rotors just need cleaning.
Dirty work, but it's gotta get done.

Nice Garm.
Might want to flush out the cooling system, and change the thermostat, cheap insurance. Thermo tower can be a bear to get off. Purging air from system is important.
Probably gunk in fuel system too so a few filters to help clear it out is useful, in my experience.
Carb cleaning you know about certainly, don't forget dashpot oil!
Simple, huh? :)

I would also do the drain the gas tank, take off the sender unit, and run a blow dryer in there for a while trick :-)

You can use air if you want, but I would not use a "heat" gun.

We don't have that much a problem in SoCal with water in the fuel, I would just drain some of the and look for water.

If there is some, add some gas dry (alcohol).

My method is to kick the tires, pack my AAA card, and go drive the heck out of it on Mulholland.

That usually cleans it out. Including rodents living underneath. Any questions?
