Harrington bumper geometry descriptions

Post by SABLT194 »

They list:

Order with or without indent - Is this the flat on the front bumper for license plate mount?

they also list with or without light cutout - Does this just mean they dont drill the holes so the bumper can be used on 69/70 cars? But the basic bumper geometry is the same, ie a small depressed section where the light would go.

Steve

Hi Steve,

I have these on my car.
I had to modify some rear bumper brackets to make that one fit, as they welded the brackets on the bumper incorrectly.

Pictures are in my Members Ride thread.

"indent" is the rear indent for the license plate light (1968). "Light cutout" is the holes that go in the indent.
The front bumper comes with the flat area for the license plate. I opted for no holes for that or for the overriders.

** I have an extra 1968 rear bumper with the indent/cutouts for the light, if anyone is interested.
I've been thinking about stocking these - a larger order would command much lower prices.

Stock 70. Flat rear. Still undecided on overrider holes. Probably with.

Did the price get any better? Last I looked it was more than a good rechrome.

^ It will with a Group Buy or through a dealer willing to import (meaning me). I paid less than the advertised price for my "samples". 8)

I looked into filling/welding all the holes, straightening and re-chroming my bumpers and it was about the same as these cost.

Remember guys, we are talking about polished stainless steel here, not chrome. Different animal (which I like).

Just a thought, since these are stainless, you should be able to buy them all WITHOUT the holes. You should be able to drill the holes when desired in the stainless without worry about nicking the chrome and having it start to rust or flake, correct?

^ Correct. I'd rather order without, but I think some people will want a "bolt-on" solution and not worry about measurements etc. What say you all?

I'd be interested in pricing to the East coast for 68 bumpers.

Yes and no. Depends on the alloy. Stainless is a bear to drill through. I tried drilling into a piece I had laser cut for a dash once. Ruined half a dozen eighth inch bits for two holes.

If others were as confused as I was, I received this from Harrington. It makes everything perfectly clear.
