Our soon to be back on the road 1966 1600 has a cali plate the same as our forum handle:

"DATSA66"

We always envision someone driving down the road and spotting our car and saying:

"Hey! Datsa66!"

still look weird on modern cars, unless at least it is personalized.

This is true...and also counts towards the ugly points, imho. I think that is just the numbering system the DMV started with---you get that as a default unless you specify a vanity plate like these gems:

anyhoo, here's a few plates I always thought were cool:

I have one on my '63 1500 w/single carb (staring a restoration on it) The meaning behind the plate is I'm a Special Agent with one agency and also a Special Agent as a Reservist for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (Air Force's version of the NCIS). So I hold two badges. Plus people always confuse my car with the one from the old TV show Get Smart.

Technically incorrect, however in South Australia they have reissued period style number plates and you can choose your combo of three letters and three numbers and you can own them forever for AUD78, so soon when I get my roadster back to my place to start work on her again, she'll have SPL-311. As far as I can tell, she's a '66 (SP) by the chassis, but according to the DMV (or our equivalent) a '68 by when she was first registered
