So, Ray, would you recommend new seats and new valves since this damage might predict further damage?

Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.

Yup, only if the all valves/seats are beyond reconditioning, that's what I would advise unless you are are a super tight student budget and will tend to things when the cash flow increases. A single can be replaced if that's all it requires.
Otherwise, its the same old: While I'm at it.....where do I stop, or good enough.

So, took it to ACP on Vanowen/Canoga -
skimming head (Harlan said it overheated) just to be safe.
new seats
new guides
new seals
if old valves are usable - then using them (machinist choice) - what do I know?

and reassembly - didn't expect that! Thanks

I think good value, but just not what I wanted to spend on this car.

How do I tell/evaluate if I need a THICKER head gasket. Is is just measuring head thickness, or is there some other method?? What do I have to watch out for??
