2300 Roadster - Build Thread

Post by L20B »

What's up guys!
Here's some progress on my L20B engine build. This will eventually be going in my 2000 roadster.

Picked up this L20B Engine for $60 on offer up last year. All the pistons were siezed. Took me about a week to work on all the rust and eventually knock them out of the cylinders. Here are some before and after pics.

Used Vinegar, Evaporust, WD-40, Transmission oil in various steps to eventually get these loose.

Next step for this block is to bore it out to 88mm. And also gonna do some work on the lower assembly to adjust for the Z23 crank i'm swapping in.

Lastly here is the engine on the stand. I'm going to use these pictures for the before and after comparison once the engine is all complete.

I am watching too as I have a 76 L20b that I grabbed years ago out of Missoula auto salvage before they crushed everything and went out of business. Was a very sad day for me as they had quite a selection of old Datsuns and I rejoiced in picking and pulling many parts there over the years. At last count I have 4 L16's, a Japanese remanufactured L18 that was in a crate in the back of my 68 wagon when I bought it, the L20b just waiting for a project, and my stroked R16/2L pulled for the 69 U20 engine, along with years and years of other Datsun parts laying around. The wife and I "had our desert first" and are retired with a lot of datsuns (daily driven) but not any extra money for projects.....oh well.
