clutch/slave adjustments

Post by bossbob »

I did a search but didn't really find what I was looking for.

When I got the car all the hydraulic's were shot so I don't know how the clutch engagement should feel. My clutch engages near the top of the pedal travel. I want it to engage closer to the floor.

So, what do I need to work on to make the adjustment.

Thanks,

Do you have a threaded adjusting rod at the slave cylinder?
If no, then what you see is what you get :|
If yes, then you can adjust the rod to de-sensitize the travel slightly

I like to set the clutch up so that it starts to engage about an inch off the floor. Threaded rod should be there at the slave cylinder on the side of the Transmission as Nissanman points out. If it is at the end of the adjustment rod already, your clutch is likely on it's last legs and may not have any adjustment left.

Just make sure that the pedal is to the floor BEFORE the master cylinder bottoms out in the cylinder so you don’t bend anything!

Adjust (36,37) & (38,39) to come out further, away from 45.

While getting my blown muffler replaced the other day, the mechanic there noted the position of the clutch slave in relation to the bleeder. Based on his experience with other cylinders having the bleed screw positioned at the bottom of the unit, he suggested the cylinder be removed, clamped such that the piston cannot move, positioned such that the bleeder is now the highest point, THEN bleed it in order to get all the air out. I have had some clutch engagement issues this year where double pumps have helped. I have not tried it yet... anyone?

Thanks for the info, I do have the threaded rod, and was able to get a little adjustment out of it, definitely felt where the push rod bottoms out and backed if off from there. Still not entirely happy with it, but it'll do for now since it's no where close to being drivable.

I got it out of it's carport area, and into the sunshine. I realized that my body work really sucks, and will have to go back and do some area's again. I guess working in dark quarters isn't the best idea.
