AND, then add an extra 'release' cable, and while you are at it, do the same for the hood.

Can't wait to try this this weekend! Thank you for your help

1) Get a length of straight stiff wire, (paint can handle works great).
2) Make a mark at 3 inches and 4 and a quarter inches.
3) Make a 90 degree bend at the 3 inch mark.
4) Put the wire in the passenger side tag screw hole.
5) Line the 4 inch mark up with the rear body panel.
6) Turn the wire so the angled part goes up and to the driver side, it will come to rest on the trunk latch (inside the trunk, it will be parallel to the ground).
7) Turn the wire towards the driver side which will then be pushing down on the latch, and it will pop the trunk.
Pushing down on the trunk lid helps.
I just went and did this on the 67 to make sure it would work, these are exact measurements. (Mark - Datsun 1500)E

Wow, that cleaned up really well. That is a nice looking 1500. Did I miss it or did you get the engine issues sorted already? Please add to the registry.

Wow, yes that did clean up great! Looks fantastic, nice video too. That’s too nice of an original to subject it to an engine mod in my opinion- but that said, it’s your car so enjoy it how you see fit!

Re: 1965 Datsun 1500 - Keeping it in the family
thank you everyone! I'm slowly working on the engine... newest issue being gas coming out of the carb overflow. I had ordered the new plastic float for the early models, but turns out i have the later model carb with the float attached by a hinge.
In regards to the rear bumper, i know the car was rear ended once. So the rear bumper, rear panel, and trunk were replaced. I'm slowly learning the different year model body styles, so not quite sure on the rear bumper year
My wife and i have made up our mind to keep the car as is, and just get it reliable and safe. Should be fun project for the next few months. I'll keep udpating photos and vids.

Re: 1965 Datsun 1500 - Keeping it in the family
I think for as clean and mostly original (including original owner/family owned) I would keep it as original as possible. Some very neat history with that car. IIRC San Diego Datsun was the first dealer in the US so being an early car sold by one of the first dealers... pretty neat stuff.
I notice in the video the pallets of GT boxes.... like bikes? Another neat potential rabbit hole hobby! I still have my Patterson setup from when I was a kid. I keep telling myself I need to clean it up and restore it.

I love old school BMX bikes! I'm storing the roadster at my business, City Grounds. Nice, I still have my Schwinn XS Pro from the late 90s, early 2000s. Titanium forks, and some other goodies. Had to buy new wheels a few years ago (maybe 10 now!) because my brother sold my old wheels

I finally got the trunk open, and found this nice surprise. Getting this electrical hazard fixed is the top priority.

Whoa.... everything alligator clipped together. NUTS!
Look at the low temp solder connectors for splicing/repairs. We use them at work and they hold up nicely.

What I am sure the PO thought was clever, is so stupid, and yet so funny, that it hurts.
