Are 311s Nissans or Datsuns?

Sorry if this has been discussed already, I’m coming up dry.

After lots of research, it seems that Nissan has been around (as well as several other parent companies) much longer than “Datsun.” However, “Datsun” used to be a model of Nissan.

So does that mean a 1600 for instance is a “Nissan Dastun 1600?”

They were the Fisher body of Japan . the Toyota 79-81 celica manu tag shows body by nissan.

Mitsubishi was a bank holdings group around 1900. It was called Mitsubishi motors until the 80s they made a 1 cly diesel water pump ,rope start, that sold well.
Then started making the engine and trans of thier cars. Other components made by other different asian companies , as were Datsuns. MY DSM at Datsun told
Most datsun wiring harnesses made at various Co. in Taiwan
many other co.s made componants. Companies like. Tokico, nabco, nippon , hitachi ...etc. these co.s would farm out work in other countries to save $$ too
Note in the 60s to 80s. Most factory workers were from the country rural that hired them. or whole family moved to a high rise apt. Building that Nissan owned
If fired, they had days to get out

It was branded as Datsun, but manufactured by Nissan. Think of it like GM in the USA. The parent company is GM, but they manufacture and sell vehicles as Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, etc. you don’t call a Corvette a GM Chevrolet Corvette, it’s just a Chevrolet Corvette.

That makes sense. I read the Nissan wiki and that’s what confused me more and prompted me to ask here lo

I imagine that if the Ford/Ferarri deal had gone through, we might never have seen the GT40.

Ford had controling interest in Nissan after ww2,right? Or was it mazda. Part of the US plan to get japans economy back is why I spoke of it.

Gm 45 % of Toyota

That Ford v. Ferrari movie is coming out November 15, 2019. I saw a preview for it the other day and it looks pretty great.
