Mirror placement

Post by bossbob »

Thought I would post this again to see if I could get any input.

What I believe to be the original passenger side fender has whole's for the mirror up toward the front of the fender, my replacement fender for the drivers side which is either a 69 or 70 has the wholes just under the antenna hole. In my mind I kind of think I will like the staggered mirror look.

Question is, is this kind of normal, has anyone done this, or does anyone have any input or pictures so I can see before I finish the body work.

Thanks again

Stock on a 68 had the drivers side mirror located on the door below the wing window. There was no stock one on the passenger side, and it was not required at that time.

Bob, when I had an original 67.5 back in 1979, the mirror was on the door. The fender to my '67 has mirror holes just to the rear of the antenna holes. I looked through pictures of original ads of the different years to see where the pictures taken at that time showed them.

62-67 fender. 67.5-70 door. Passenger mirror is not standard for any unless I am mistaken.

My 70 only has driver side door mirror. My wife complains that she needs a mirror on her side all the time!

I have asked the question about the right hand cars and a door rear view mirror, because I want one. The answer appears to be that the right hand cars rear view mirror was on the fender. There was not right hand door mirror made.

JDM roadsters had/have wing mirrors on the wing (fender) not the door.

Pretty much sounds like put it where you want it, unless you are going for a concourse restoration.
Well, that's my take. I think we are doing two fender mirrors, in the antenna location for my daughters car.

Also did this. Because it just seems so right even if it is 'wrong'

I’ve tried mirrors in several locations and the best was the antenna hole! Far enough back to be able to work under the hood without them getting in the way.

Never thought of the inconvenience of the location while wrenching, good point.

Just checked what I believe to be the original door as it is in the back of the garage, and there are no holes at all for the mirror.
