Repro Stainless Headlight Trims from Vietnam

Post by jhayden »

My intention was to wait until this process was a bit further along (to avoid another “Smoothline low w/s hard top” disappointment), but Steve’s post yesterday re the bumpers indicated that he had a favourable experience with these folks when he sent them bumpers to repro in stainless, so here goes:

In February I mailed bumperautomobile.com a pair of headlight trims from a ’69 SPL to use as templates for repro in stainless. Those I sent had never been damaged or re-chromed, but they were more than a little rusty. Since that time “Amy” (a member of their sales team) has acknowledged receipt, and asked how many sets I would like to order. I replied that I would like to purchase only one set, install them on one of our cars to show fitment, and then post pics (with pricing and shipping info) on 311s.org for interested members to see and order directly from bumperautomobile.com (or their eBay listing) as if they were ordering their bumpers.

So, that was just earlier this month, and I’m now encouraged by Steve’s positive review. I had purchased my stainless bumpers from Harrington (UK) about five years ago, but they expressed no interest or plans to reproduce the headlight trims at that time.

Will update this as more info becomes available. I plan to send the link to this posting to Amy, so if you’d like to indicate your possible interest (no financial commitment, obviously) or simply comment, it will give her a better idea of the response they could expect.

That's great Jon. I'd be interested in a pair for the '69. I might even take a second pair for the .68 to see if I could make them satin looking like my current ones.

He sent in a 69. When did the change occur from narrow to wide?

100% cost and quality dependent. If good on both counts, I'd be interested. Not sure what I would consider a "good" cost.

One would assume greater manufacturing savings in using less material on the late cars.
However, ive seen more wide bands on late cars. The satin rings on my 68 2L are wide. Andy a 68, had 2 wide bands in the trunk. My 69 has wide bands.
All three 66s have narrow bands.
Goldie, a 67.5, had a wide band and narrow band, go figure lol.
Its not much .080" maybe.

My 70 is very wide. My 68 has one wide, one a little less wide. Seems like going very wide would work for everyone?
