Is this the right mirrior?

Post by speedbug78 »

My car is a '69 2000. This mirror was on it but I can't see a darn thing, except the road going by. Is there a way to adjust it to make it useful? Thanks!

Not the right mirror. The correct mirror is flat, frosted silver and mounted on an arm that extends from the body. It doesn’t work all that great either though. :)

You can sort of see out of mine if you turn the face to about 45* and twist your head just right😁

If you scroll down about 20 posts and click the last page of where did you drive, there is a pretty good shot of the factory mirror on my 69

lol, not really except that it has no adjustment that I can find and is pretty useless. The scoop works just fine.

My car came with a similar mirror....does you're mirror have a screw opposite the mirror ( on the tip of the cone)? If so it allows for some adjustment of the mirror. I still have to contort my neck to see.

Back in the day, when I had my first roadster, it cam with NO mirrors. And having NO idea of correctness, I just put what I thought were cool mirrors, like yours. They worked fine, it's just the POSITION on the door/fender that makes the differrence. Yours appear to be too close to driving position.

Even with the 'correct' mirrors, position dictates field of view. NEVER understood the logic of having them so FAR forward. Had that on my Bentley, and mostly useless due to small field of view.

From the best I can tell, my '69 has the same mirror that you have on yours. As previously mentioned, the front swivels if you loosen that screw on the back end a little. Mine is on the door as well but I have seen photos of them mounted further up on the fender. If you have spare time look through the old BaT completed roadsters. There must be 4 or 5 using this type of mirror. Must have been popular back in the day.

Those bullet mirrors should have a screw opposite the mirror as mentioned, you actually twist the mirror to get the right angle, then tighten the screw.

I always wanted a Talbot style mirror and mounted it where the OEM mirror was like how yours currently is. It was also 100% useless other than looking cool.

My car had no stereo and never will, so one day I had an idea... Pulled the Antenna and used that space

Now its in a perfect location as a blind spot mirror
