14" steering wheel

Post by beautyandplay »

Can anyone tell me if there is a currently available 14" steering wheel (plus adapter as needed) that will work with a 1966 roadster?

Lots by Grant, take your time,as this is the most visible thing to you the driver, and they don’t wear out.
Provides lots of knee room, easier in/out of driver seat. A bit more exertion whendoing low speed parking maneuvers, but you just lean forward.
Grants use an adaptor, use the Search, 2896?, some number like that. Stay with period choices (IMHO)

Good point, Search function is your friend, as is the best way to "survey the crowd", as it is a very personal decision.

You have to look at it for a long time (they don't wear out!), but also personal tastes in both look and size. By size I mean I have large hands so prefer fat baseball bats and tennis rackets, and found after long roadster drives my hands were all cramped, so I got a real FAT one with an indent for the thumb right above the spokes. Given the choice, I would have gone for something more classic and period looking, "banjo styled", but thick rimmed. Oh, and I hate the fact that my particular one cannot be dismantled to change out the Grant logo for something car correct, as I don't drive a "Grant".
(Yes, have tried several methods, and only way is to skim cut the face of the horn button and refinish it with a pre-printed logo of my choice...)

This is a Grant 14.75" Banjo style. Grant Banjo Style Steering Wheels 1050. With a Datsun logo on the horn button.

Now that just looks right, especially with chrome shift nob and metallic trim around shifter boot. Well done Howard.

Same size and sort of a variation on the Prototipo is the new California which I was debating. Only thing I don't like is it seems to have a semi polished finish rather than a satin. These are similar to the old Monza wheel from the 70s....

Nice wheel! Agreed, the satin in a Datsun would blend better.
Scotch brite and satin clear?

Thank you all for your suggestions. Is there one adapter for roadsters that works with current Momo wheels? Any info on adapters, like part numbers will be greatly appreciated.
