Motor Power INC New Ownership
Just and FYI for those folks whom have used Motor Power for R16/H20 parts in the past. The original owner sold out the beginning of the year due to retirement. The 800 number stayed the same just different folks answering. The catalog will stay the same at least for a while longer. Prices are still reasonable. I ordered some 5R 89mm Toyota pistons and rings for my stroker project. Rick, the fellow I spoke to was friendly and very helpful. Think the name will stay the same but charges will be from GRINDSTAFF ENGINES from now on.
And for the naysayers that might say the parts are of inferior quality I have been running pistons, rings, timing gear, chain, tensioner and crankshaft gear in my stroker for years and never had an issue.

I think I got my gasket set from them, no problems there either.

Re: Motor Power INC New Ownership
Curtis,
Building another stroker for the 66. According to Lou Mondello I can get around 1800cc's using a 3 main, 1500 crank. 1600 rods, and 89mm Toyota pistons. Will put a stroker cam in and run 40 Mikuni's. Just found out how hard it is to source 3 main crankshaft bearings. Hard to come by these days. The standard bore is 87.2 so we will bore to 89 and have to adjust the deck height of the pistons. Should be a fun ride when all said and done.

So these pistons fit for pin height and all? Where did you get bearings? I need some.

Re: Motor Power INC New Ownership
I have most of the parts to build an 1800. However I don't have main bearings. Are the Toyota pistons domed at all? I now have two sets of U20 flat top pistons. I would like the dome to get a bit more compression. I wonder if the R16 pistons will clear the throw on the 1500 crank?

Re: Motor Power INC New Ownership
Main bearings? Motor Power?
I'm guessing the front, center and rear bearing from a 5 main set have different dimensions than the 3 main.

Re: Motor Power INC New Ownership
No, they are unique to the three main. Ross was the only one that had any standard 3 mains. Rod and cam you could use Motor Power.
One other issue I have run into is the availability of early SAE timing gears. The Motor Power timing gear is fine for the later 5 main metric motors. If you set the Metric cam gear on top of the SAE cam gear you will see the Metric gear is off about a half of a tooth which will affect the timing. Since I am getting a cam reground I sourced a Metric cam to replace my SAE so I can use the Motor Power Metric timing camshaft gear. Stan and Dave P figured this all out some time ago. Stan recommended I source a metric cam so I did.

Re: Motor Power INC New Ownership
The new pistons are flat top. Like I said they will need to be decked to the block in order to work,

Re: Motor Power INC New Ownership
89 mm bore with 74 mm stroke (1500 crank) will give you 1841 cc or 112 cu. in.
With a good valve job and minor porting, or just clean up of the intake port bowl area, it will give you a nice power boost over the 1600.

Re: Motor Power INC New Ownership
Got my box of parts from All Type Parts & Equipment yesterday. The former owner of Motor Power Inc. has been helping them with the transfer of business. The lady was really helpful.
Got a timing set and cam bearings. The lifters came in a Nissan box. Good to have spares.
